Well I bit the bullet and took on a little bit of a long term project Rolling Eyes

A Ferret Mk4 in a bit of a sorry state but pretty complete

Volunteers for work parties will be gratefully appreciated as long as you can supply your own wire brushes Twisted Evil

And yes before you all say it I must be mad but it was such a good price I could'nt resist.

Looks like Neil's Stolly isnt going to be the only amphibious vehicle to grace the fort. Twisted Evil

Though I dont think I will be swimming it for a while yet Wink

Nice Ferret you've got there, its going to need a lot of work to get it back on the road. you could have baught one at Beltring for £5000 this year.
It looks like its in the same state as the Borgward2000 that me and my mate John has just baught.

Hi Martin

Doubt I would have picked up this sort of Ferret for £5000 as there are not that many of them on the circuit.

This is the Mk4 which was a pre runner to the Fox, often called the big wheeled ferret or as some of our colonial cousins decided to call it " Arnold Schwartzenferret".

Most of the Mk4's were Mk2/3's up armoured and re engineered with the larger wheels, flotation screen and other variations to the normal ferret. They also benefitted from having a more amenable servicing arrangement and not to forget disc brakes all round as well as a servo assist.

The Fox, though entirely different built on from most of the ideas put forward with this modification of the trusty Ferret as you will probably see from the accompanying pictures.

Mk 2 Ferret

As you can probably see the Mk4 is a bit of a hybrid using a similar running gear as the Fox but the basic hull structure of the Mk2 and thats what makes them quite rare.

In fact these go for around £7,500 - £10,000 depending on condition etc. Hopefully after this one is restored it should fall in around mid way between those two figures. As I originally said I got it for a remarkably cheap price so will have plenty of value left after restoration even spending what I envisage will be needed. Bit of a result really Wink

Hi Neil

Should be having it delivered just after Christmas to another storage site we use. Just have to do a bit of juggling and moving vehicles around at the moment.

As soon as it is delivered I will be conducting guided tours for the princely sum of crossing my palm with silver Twisted Evil
